This is a kitchen, laundry, hallway bathroom, primary bathroom and guest bathroom renovation job that we recently did for some lovely people in the Whitaker Woods neighborhood in the west end of Richmond. We started by demolishing their kitchen, downstairs guest bathroom and their upstairs hall bathroom; We weren’t able to demo all of the bathrooms at once as the family was living in the house during the renovations. The bathrooms were demolished down to the studs and with the help of our in-house design and selections coordinator we installed all new finishes. The downstair guest ½ bathroom was a little more difficult than the upstairs hallway full bathroom as we were contracted to add a shower turning the guess bathroom into a full bath.

Our company was referred to this client by mutual friends. They had recently purchased this farmhouse and had been collaborating with C.L. Shade Architects. Despite sending their plans to multiple General Contractors, none were willing to tackle the project. However, it was a perfect project for us here CB Chandler Construction!  The existing house as we received it, was a combination of several additions over 70 or 80 years old. Some work was done well and some not so well. During the full gut of the existing house, we found many very interesting things!

We completed a total kitchen renovation, along with numerous miscellaneous items at this 2-level condominium. The miscellaneous items included adding a laundry room on the second floor and adding much-needed storage space under the stairs going to the 2 nd floor. The storage under the stairs was creative, custom, and became the talk of the neighborhood. With any renovation, we never know what we will find until we open the walls. The hardest part of this kitchen renovation was reworking the main plumbing pipe that came down in the middle of the kitchen ceiling. This tends to be a common occurrence during renovations, however, with an open mind from the homeowner, we were able to find a suitable location to hide this in the cabinet layout. When all was said and done, this job turned out excellent. We have a happy client, and a ton of extra storage for a condo.

This project in the desirable Cheswick neighborhood off River Road consisted of a second-floor bedroom and office addition, a rearranged and renovated full bathroom, a two-story chimney, a new 2nd floor HVAC system, and a new outdoor living space with a fireplace, outdoor kitchen, and grill area. The new bedroom and office addition were added to an existing second-floor bedroom with an existing in-suite full bath. The existing bedroom became a sizeable walk-in closet, while the bathroom layout was adjusted to include a double vanity, toilet room, freestanding tub, and large glass-enclosed shower. The second-floor addition created a covered outdoor living space with 10’ ceilings. Bluestone was chosen for the patio as well as the hearth.  This project presented several unique challenges. The main challenge involved making the structural connection of the addition to the existing house, the biggest being a large beam right through the middle of the kitchen while the client was living in the adjacent space. The weather, material delays, and site logistics were also concerns throughout the process. The construction team worked hard to make sure that quality and customer satisfaction were not compromised.

These clients were a delight to work with! They kept the charm of the home but (sadly) replaced their small old porch with a beautiful screened-in porch and raised patio! A beautiful addition to the backyard living space for many seasons to come! Elevations for the raised patio were a challenge to engineer. I truly appreciated the collaboration of the homeowners and the CBC team. We couldn’t have had a better outcome and a better team.

This is an addition we did back in 2017 for one of our favorite clients. They came to us with an idea. After meeting onsite several times we came up with a plan. We pulled the rear porch off and added roughly 1000 SF to the house with a new master bedroom, walk-in closet, and guest bedroom on the 2nd floor of the addition. We took over an existing small bedroom/office on the 2nd floor to create a master bathroom. On the first floor, we blew out a large section of the existing rear brick wall and created a large kitchen with a large eat-at island. Removed the old kitchen, and we built a custom kid's corner (my favorite part of the project). We then added a screen porch to the rear of the house and a large patio below. Gallery 5 also has a rich historical background. We are honored to be working on a building that has served the community as a firehouse, police station, a fire and police museum, and a hot dog emporium (can’t forget the emporium) and continues to serve as a music venue, art gallery, and fine place to get a drink.
